Sungro Seeds Research believes in continuous improvement. For this sungro has created an efficient team of scientists actively engaged in research work for the improvement of crops handled by it. It is through this team that it was possible for us to develop the first indigenously developed Cabbage hybrid Sumit, Radish hybrid R – 33 and Asiatic type Carrot hybrid No. 404. All the hybrids released by the institution are performing excellently throughout the zoned identified for release and are being exported to different countries.

RESEARCH FACILITY AT SUNGRO
INFRASTRUCTURE
The company has the well developed infrastructure such as farms, office building, polyhouses, facilities for virus screening, electrophoresis and ELISA laboratory etc. We have research centres backed up by manpower and modernised facilities in all important agro climatic zones throughout the country for breeding and testing purposes
MANPOWER
We have 49 qualified experienced personnel in R&D. Our R&D staffs have excellent exposure to modern day research and has undergone various training programmes and participated in various International and National Symposia/Meetings/Conferences in India and abroad.
ACHIEVEMENTS
We have released a number of superior through our R&D which are doing well in different regions of the country. Some of our hybrids have been tested and released by Project Directorate of Vegetable Research, Varanasi through All India Co-ordinated vegetable improvement programmes at different locations nation wide and has been reported by them to be desirable among the popular hybrids in the market.
Based on our performance and the facilities available Sungro Seeds Research has been Recognized by Department of Science and Technology (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India as a Research and Development Company.
R & D PROJECT PLAN
Research mandate includes development of new hybrids with a focus on value added characteristics like insect resistance, multiple disease resistance, heat/cold, drought resistance, better self life / transportability & nutritional value etc. in the crops like cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, tomato, eggplant, radish and all cucurbits. There is also a niche in our breeding programme for export purpose.
Recently the company is also engaged in developing transgenic hybrids containing Bt gene in Brinjal, Cauliflower and Cabbage for lepidopteran insect pest resistance.
Our company has developed hybrids in cauliflower & cabbage which are otherwise imported. Thus Our country can save valuable foreign exchange revenue because of this.
